We received the invitation to visit and to present a proposal for a 50m² apartment in Mouraria, Lisbon. The client wanted to rehabilitate the apartment for touristic renting and it was with that purpose in mind that we presented the following proposal.
The project includes changes in the location of several services, the improvement of functionality and spatiality and the openness of space. To that effect, the old kitchen loses the illegal bathroom and becomes the new bedroom, with storage and working space in one place. The angles in this division allow for a game of planes, bringing a little dynamic to the room.
The new bathroom takes up the only interior space available, its central location providing the best access from both the bedroom and living room. To improve space functionality, we propose the use of a sliding door for its access.
The living room is the space with the most changes. Previously consisting of two very small rooms (one of them interior) and a small access corridor, we propose the removal of the walls to open up the space. The final result is a bigger living room, where both the kitchenette and dining space are located and from where we have a beautiful view of the Tagus river.
What once was a much closed apartment becomes a modern and functional one bedroom apartment, with all the necessary accessories and equipments for a visit to the city.
With this proposal we believe we answered the client's request of the necessary changes to create an attractive apartment for a tourist visiting Lisbon.
